348 rockstars, 84 guitarists, 64 songs, 44 drummers, 1 mashup.
With no braggadocio whatsoever, that is the simple description Ithaca Audio attached to its recently released video History of Rock.
Oh, it is that, and so much more.
In todays world of soundbites and :15 second Vine videos, this almost 15-minute video retraces the steps and influences of Rock n Roll in grand style.
Deftly mashing up music starting with Elvis Presleys Jailhouse Rock and transitioning through the decades to the Kings of Leons Sex on Fire, you cant help but be drawn in to the expertly mixed narrative of the music. But this is 2016, after all, and while the music track itself will find its way into DJ mixes for years to come, the video is also an amazing feat.
Imagine the history of rock laid out on a Facebook Timeline, with actual quotes from rockstars citing their heroes and Liking the music that influenced their careers. British Invasion, Pop, Guitar Rock, Punk, New Wave, Heavy Metal its all represented, but couldnt possibly contain everyone.
The videos description partially says: our main aim was to create a mashup that was foremost entertaining to watch, contain it to around 15 mins, for it to primarily work well musically (and in the form of a Facebook feed) and have examples of the evolution of mainstream rock over the decades rather than create a kind of definitive documentary of rock.
Ithaca Audio, you have succeeded, and you kinda kicked our ass in the process.
