The Cars release remastered LP collection and hits package

The Cars’ first decade is being boxed up into a freshly remastered retrospective set, alongside a new single-disc, career-spanning compilation.

The six-disc box, titled The Elektra Years 1978-1987, arrived on CD March 11, and features digital remastering supervised by frontman Ric Ocasek. Each of the six albums the group released for Elektra Records are collected in replica sleeves featuring the original artwork — a process overseen by drummer David Robinson, who designed the band’s album covers.

71wwenlHQBL._SY355_THE ELEKTRA YEARS 1978-1987 includes six studio albums, each one presented in a replica sleeve with original artwork. Ric Ocasek oversaw digital remastering for the set, while drummer David Robinson – who helped create The Cars’ iconic album covers through the years – served as art director. The six-disc collection is available now on CD and digitally. On Tuesday June 7, a limited edition vinyl version of the boxed set will be available with each 180-gram LP pressed on a different color vinyl.
