REO Speedwagon guitarist (1970-1989) Gary Richrath has died at the age of 65. While the band saw many different formations over the years it’s clear the apex of their success came with Richrath on lead guitar. He and lead singer Kevin Cronin wrote most of the bands big hits including “Keep on Loving You,” Take it on the Run,” “In Your Letter” and “Don’t let Him Go.”
Cronin took to the bands website and Facebook to say “Hi friends, kc here. My longtime friend and collaborator Gary Richrath passed away earlier today. I feel so sad. Gary was both a unique guitarist and songwriter, and the embodiment of the tough guy with a heart of gold. I learned most of what I know about being in a rock band from Gary Richrath. The entire REO Family mourns his death and shares in the grief of his family, friends, and fans. These words do not come close to expressing the depth of emotions I am feeling at this time.”
No cause of death was announced at this time.
