HUEY TUESDAY – a weekly dig through the archives of the only 80s band more interested in workin’ for a livin’ than being hip. But for every monster pop single, there was a deep album detour into new wave, ska, blues, reggae, a capella and instrumentals. Hip to be square, indeed! Have you really heard the News?
When it comes to Huey’s soundtrack offerings, the list is short.
Of course, there was Back to the Future, and Duets. You remember Duets, right? No? That’s okay. We’ll come back to that.
But today’s edition finds HLN extolling the virtues of Mary Jane … cannabis … The Chronic.
Yep, this isn’t just an obligatory soundtrack offering to Seth Rogen’s stoner action comedy. It was a personal request from Rogen that Huey and the boys write and record a song capturing the spirit of Pineapple Express, itself named after a mythic strain of weed.
We’re not going to speculate how Seth convinced Huey to sign on, but we will point out that about halfway through, we hear the sound of (we’re guessing) Huey coughing.
So puff, puff, pass! And enjoy today’s hit … er, song.
