Bananarama Reunite after 29 Years and Announce Tour

Bananarama – the UK trio known for hits such as “Cruel Summer” and “Venus” – have announced they have reunited, and will head out on tour.

The last time the gals performed together was in 1988 – 29 long years ago. Shortly afterward, and despite a string of massive pop hits, Siobhan Fahey left the group to form Shakespeares Sister.

Fahey, Sarah Dallin and Keren Woodward announced via Twitter that they were excited to be returning to perform live across the UK. But it might have never happened if not for the untimely death of their friend, George Michael, last December.

Woodward spent more than 25 years in a relationship with Michael’s Wham! co-star Andrew Ridgeley, and remain close. It took losing Michael to make the trio realize that life was too short to not spend it doing what you love.

“He was such a huge part of our lives. I’d only just lost a cousin too who was my age, and George’s death was the instigating factor really for saying yes to doing this now.”

The new UK tour will run through November and December of this year.
