After ten years at a National Public Radio station in Chicago, Mike Lidskin returned to California in 1997 and created Twirl Radio, a weekly two hour radio program which features the finest independent music and artists from the rock era. Mike’s on a mission to not “just spin rock music, but to educate listeners about this vital art form.” Indeed, he doesn’t just announce the songs, but gives histories about some of the artists, the albums, and the songs themselves.
You can catch Twirl live each Saturday afternoon, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM PST on Sacramento’s Voice, KUBU 96.5 FM, and archived right here, as well as at http://www.twirlradio.com. If you haven’t headed into your Saturday night with an earful of Twirl, you’re doing it wrong!

THIS WEEK’S THEME:
After a healthy, extended run of shows with interviews–and sometimes multiple interviews, leading up to last week’s interview tripleheader extravaganza, a break in the action was in order. No–not a work stoppage–just a show with no interviews and all all music. So that’s what we did–just music, and my, um, snappy remarks!
But we took the opportunity to bust out new music. 2019 continues to be a prolific year for new, independent music. We heard a brand new pre-release Identical Suns track. Also, new music debuts, never before heard on this show, from David Brookings & The Average Lookings, Yolanda Cazessus, Courtney Hale Revia, The Bobbleheads, and Girls on Grass. We also played a trippy song by The Larry Kelly Five, a mysterious Alabama rock outfit, which I don’t think I’ve played in 15 years. It was high time to dust this gem off and spin it. There were even a couple of great tracks from my misbegotten youth.
I highly recommend you give this musical treasure hunt a listen. I hope you enjoy!
